Toyama prefecture (富山県 toyama-ken) is an area of Japan best known for its heavy snows, cheap electricity, and a crippling bone disease called itai-itai byo (literally, ouch ouch disease). Regional food dishes include "firefly squid" and "trout sushi." It is located on the Japan Sea side of Honshû?. The capital and largest is Toyama City. The second largest city is Takaoka. The third largest city is Nanto which was created when eight tiny villages gappei-ed. Other cities include Himi, Shinminato?, Tonami?, Oyabe?, Namerikawa?, Uozu?, and Kurobe. There are also many smaller villages of lesser import.

- The name of the prefecture is only one character different than Mount Fuji (富士山).
