It will be on your right after you cross a big road that leads to Valor on the left. Services: The usual array. A cut and shampoo will cost 4000 yen.

Notes on staff and decor: One JET says: “Is it run by one woman. Her husband plays rock music, and the store is super hip. The woman herself is very cool and totally into wild hairstyles. She is very well versed and can attain any look you like.”

Jusco - Tonami

The establishment is located in Jusco: About an 8 minute walk from the station if you get out of the main north exit. Walk left and past GB’s Café/Big Blue Diner. Make a right at the T and keep walking until you see it (it’s on the same street as Yocchan’s, Escargo, Kahma, etc.).

Services: Cuts for 1000 yen! The staff consists of about 5 people. They cannot take appointments because they work on a first come, fist serve basis.

Sharaku – Tonami Tel: 0120-33-6487

Location: Across from Apita on the R156. A 15-20 minute walk from Tonami station if you exit on the south side.

Services: They appear to offer the same kinds of services any large hair salon would offer. They even have seasonal specials (e.g. Summer Highlights). A wash and cut was 3600 + tax, and I also received a coupon for 1000 off my next visit within 2 months.

English ability: Minimal

Notes on staff and décor: The place is fairly large with an equally large staff and a hip yet professional atmosphere. I went on a Friday afternoon without an appointment and did not have to wait at all. There are separate hairdressers for men and women. The shampoo they use is mint-tingly and heavenly. The hairdresser I had was very nice, and while she didn’t exactly do what I wanted on the first try, it was probably due to the significant language barrier. In any case, she was patient and listened to the changes I wished to be made (which I did have to say in Japanese) and I walked out very happy.
