SPO Toyama

The Sacred Poseidon Organization of Toyama specializes in Mixed Martial Arts, mainly kickboxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Members of SPO include professional and semi-pro fighters (boxing, Pride, MMA, complete fighting, Shoot-fighting, etc.) but the dojo is open to people of ALL ABILITIES, ALL AGES, and ALL GENDERS.

The head teacher, Aoyama-sensei, is extremely kind and helpful and all of the members of the dojo are nice and fun...aside from learning how to kick ass, joining is a great way to make friends!

Practices are held every night during the week except for Saturdays, from 8 PM to 10:30, but you can really drop in as often or as little as you'd like.

SPO is located off route 3 in Toyama (the road that heads towards Tateyama) near the Green Mall, and is accessible by car or a bus from Toyama Station.

The cost is normally 10,000 yen to join and 5,000 yen per month, BUT if you call Aoyama-sensei and say that you are a JET, he will waive the entrance fee! Just tell him that Jake sent you. Call AOYAMA-sensei at 090 2830 1756

For people interested in learning: KYUDO (Japanese Archery): You can take lessons at the north Gym from Toyama Station. There are two sessions. One in summer and the other in fall. The summer session runs from May- July. You have to sign up before hand in April. First come first serve,　they have a cap on how many people can sign-up usually 20 people. The next session starts from September- November. The class costs 2,000 yen per month, and a one time fee of 2,000 yen for signing up. Equipment such as the bows, arrows, gloves, and etc... are provided by the　class for free. You don't need a uniform, only sports clothes. However, you are　welcome to purchase your own equipment and uniform if you like. You can ask for information and when sign up day is, at the gym office.

Iiaido

Please contact Uozu City Hall if you are interested in the art of drawing the sword. No English spoken and experience is necessary.
