Snowboarding/Skiing: Equipment can be rented from Apia (next to Sunshine 88) in Toyama for very reasonable prices. However, make sure you get your board early (by the end of December) as they do run out. Last year, one cheap Mexican ALT didn’t get to snowboard as much as he would have liked as he missed out on the rental boards.

Running: Most cities have their own annual marathons. Ranging from 1km to 13.1km there is something for everyone. Price is usually around Åè3,000 to enter which includes a free t-shirt, drink and other freebies upon completion.

Soft Tennis: Indoor tennis every Tuesday night in Namerikawa. Contact local ALTs for details.

Monthly memberships at sports clubs range from 3,000 to 12,000 yen. In addition, a membership fee of about 3,000-5,000 yen is usually required. Some clubs give out free passes or discounts.
